Video: Lincoln’s Pickit presents at 1 Million Cups

Pickit is a promotional platform that gives users access to the latest deals from local businesses, while connecting them with non-profits in the community. Built on a mobile platform, Pickit users log in and gain access to coupons at local businesses. A portion of the money also goes to benefit the user’s chosen non-profit.

Founded by James Verhoeff, Pickit launched its mobile app in May 2013 and is currently looking for new ways to grow. Verhoeff is a recent graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Jeffrey S. Raikes School for Computer Science and Management and came up with the idea for Pickit with a few friends from school.

One Million Cups is a weekly entrepreneurial event that occurs in cities across the United States each Wednesday morning. At the event, entrepreneurs and locals gather with coffee in hand to listen to a 6-minute presentation given by a local startup. The rest of the hour-long event is left open for a Q&A with the presenter as well as time to encourage and mentor each other in the hopes of building a stronger startup community.

The Omaha/Lincoln chapter hosts the event in Omaha at Mammel Hall on the University of Nebraska-Omaha campus each week, with the exception of the last Wednesday of the month when the event is hosted in Lincoln at Nebraska Global.
