Silicon Prairie News is a digital media company giving a voice to software startups in and around Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. The content is published on a blog that reports on the innovative individuals and companies that make up the Silicon Prairie.
Founded in 2008 by Jeff Slobotski, SPN also produces and hosts events to connect with the entrepreneurial community. They’re best known for The Big Series (Big Omaha, Big Des Moines and Big Kansas City), the Silicon Prairie Awards and the Startup Job Crawl.
One Million Cups is a weekly entrepreneurial event that occurs in cities across the United States each Wednesday morning. At the event, entrepreneurs and locals gather to listen to a 6-minute presentation given by a local startup. The rest of the hour-long event is left open for a Q&A with the presenter as well as time to encourage and mentor each other in the hopes of building a stronger startup community.
The Omaha/Lincoln chapter hosts the event in Omaha at Mammel Hall on the University of Nebraska-Omaha campus each week, with the exception of the last Wednesday of the month when the event is hosted in Lincoln at Nebraska Global.
